New Cook Strait ferry is welcomed

Wellington came out en masse to welcome Bluebridge’s newest Cook Strait Ferry to the fleet – and raise funds for the Sealord Swim for Life initiative.

More than 3,000 people were welcomed aboard the ferry at an Open Day that raised $5,000 to go towards teaching kiwi kids how to swim.

Strait Shipping managing director Sheryl Ellison says the Strait Feronia was given a warm Wellington welcome with both the sun and thousands of Wellingtonians coming out.

“It’s been a hugely successful day with a great turnout in support of both our new ship the Strait Feronia and Sealord Swim for Life. We’re delighted that all funds raised today will go directly into getting kiwi kids into the water learning to swim.”

Visitors onboard the ship enjoyed ship tours, live music, face painting, spot prizes and food and drinks.

Ms Ellison says the public’s feedback on the new ship has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Strait Feronia will begin service on the Cook Strait towards the end of June.
