Callsigns NZ was launched as the first online portal for purchasing NZ
Marine Radio MF/HF & VHF and MF/HF Callsigns.
Run by Ministry of Economic Development Authorised
Examiners,
Callsigns NZ
registers marine radio callsigns for operators who are
required to use a callsign for identification purposes.
Registered on Radio Spectrum Management's national SMART
Register, a marine radio MF/HF (SSB) or MF/HF & VHF
callsign provides instant information about you and your
vessel.
Operators of radio transmitters in the aeronautical,
amateur and maritime services are required to use a
callsign for identification purposes. Now kiwi boaties
can apply for their marine radio callsign online with
ease in a matter of minutes from the comfort of their
living room or office!
Pick & Personalise your own Callsign
What's more, applicants can pick and personalise their
own callsign (some criteria applies) and have them
processed and delivered to your email inbox (or via
post/fax). You can submit up to 3 preferences as part of
your online application. The callsigns do not expire,
and the Radio Spectrum Management Group have no
intention of changing these rules at this time. Boaties
have enough expense to worry about without the added
hassle of crazy renewal notices!
Maintaining your Marine Radio Callsign
As a new client you will be issued
with your own Client Key and Password to maintain your
personal information contained in the Ministry's
certificate records. There is no fee to change your
client details and changes are visible immediately on
the SMART database. Clients who access SMART with
their Client Key and Password are able to view and print
their own certificate and callsign records. As part of this
new service,
Callsigns NZ maintain all MF/HF (SSB)
only and MF/HF & VHF equipped ship callsigns provided
they are not allocated to a radio licence, but are
allocated to a GURL (some charges apply).
Callsigns NZ
will even
take care of callsign transfers and changes of ownership
- all online!
